"Gabrial Ator"

Windows TrueType Font for Modern Assyrian Script
Version 1.0

==============

Gabrial Ator is a TrueType font for use in Microsoft Windows
programs. This document is a description of the font's
design and character layout.

Though this font may be used as-is for entering text in a
Windows word processor, it is probably best used with a
rendering system such as SIL's "SDF-based Rendering Engine",
which is, at the time of this writing, still under
development and will be supported by future releases of
SIL's Shoebox database and linguistic processing program and
by SIL's LinguaLinks system. (For more information about
SIL and SIL software, see <http://www.sil.org>.)

Though Gabrial Ator is copyrighted, you may freely use and
distribute it, as long as you 1) do not alter the font in
any way, and 2) do not charge others for the font in any way
other than perhaps a modest fee for diskette and mailing.

The author makes no guarantee as to the useability of this
font for any particular purpose. If you find it helpful to
you, fine. If the font does not meet your needs, then look
for another font to use, and accept this author's apologies.

The author of Gabrial Ator is an non-Assyrian who has never
designed a font before, and who has had only a few weeks'
exposure to the Assyrian script. Please keep this in mind
when critiquing the font.

==============

Layout of the font:

Basically, the positions 'A'-'Z' and 'a'-'r' are occupied by
the basic consonants of the Alap-Bet. Then positions
's'-'x' are the basic diacritics of the script. 'y' is an
extender for the baseline, and 'z' is the final flair needed
on many consonants when they are word-final.

Then the characters from 192 - 255 are "ligatures", i.e.
combinations of consonants and diacritics (or diacritics
with each other) which do not come out well using just the
normal characters above.
